The Daily Distress
The Daily Distress
Good morning fun-fans,
As another Wednesday dawns, we wish Gerorge Stephenson a happy birthday. He’s have been 240 today, making him slightly older than the average Merseyrail train.
It’s also the start of the 2020 European Championhips in which the winners will get a 25% cut in the usual bragging rights.
It’s not all about football, though - unless you’re listening to Radio 5 - and there are lots of other things to keep us amused.
Here are just a few of them.

The Daily Distress has been taking another look at the history of its near namesake. It’s good that the Express arrived in the 17th Century in style as they’ve been living there ever since.

Cat of the Week
It’s not always possible to trust a cat around other lifeforms but here’s proof that cats aren’t always on the prowl for food …
Sorry, we don't know who's this is but we love it.

What's on the Telly?
We haven’t seen it, but it has garnered some pretty good reviews. Days of the Bagnold Summer is a British coming-of-age comedy based on a graphic novel of the same name directed by Simon Bird.
We mainly chose to mention it due to our delight at Film 4 showing something that doesn’t involve superheroes or robots that transform into Lego sets. Could Film 4 be heading back to being a film channel? We very much hope so.
If it does turn out to involve superheroes or robots that transform into Lego sets, we offer our humble apologies.
Film 4, Thurday, 9PM.

We don’t normally list dramas but seeing as it’s one of our all-time favourite movies, it would be churlish not to mention The Man Who Would be King (1975). Loosely based on the Kipling story of the same name, Danny (sean Connery) and Peachy (Michael Caine) head off to Kafiristan to become God-kings.
The two leads spark off each other quite wonderfully, making this an absolute must-see.
Film 4, Sunday, 11AM.

Toon Time
A war-time offering from MGM studios, Tex Avery directs Jerky Turkey (1945). The turkey is based on Jimmy Durante.

From The Fast Show - Chester Drawers has his act royally sabotaged by Arthur Atkinson. Apropos of nothing, we believe that this is the only Fast Show sketch to ever mention Sutton Coldfield.

Meme of the Week
We’ll leave it you to decide who’s the better actor but our vote is going to the uncredited squirrel.
Ten-ten 'til we Meet Again
We wish you all a week full of laughter and joy.
We’ll be back next week with another round up of cats, cartoons and all things wonderful.
Excelsior!
