🔥 What’s up, Bogota?  This week’s Applied Artificial Intelligence newsletter comes from Bogota, capital of Colombia, once a dangerous country, consumed in a +50 years of civil conflict, now a top destination for tourism and one of the most promising Tech Hubs in Latin America, with huge potential upside still waiting to be explored.
This month, 2.600 meters above the sea level, the city hosted the first City AI event in the South American region. Attendees and speakers alike discussed the potential of more people applying AI in big companies and startups, in the public and the private sector, that could be the engine for progress and competitive advantage in the country. Lessons from Bogota
Zooming on the applications of AI 1DOC3 spoke about a healthcare use-case  - allowing doctors to answer anonymously to symptoms presented by the patient. This platform is characterized by providing its users with a linear model of Internet attention using artificial intelligence. Thanks to the results obtained through the use of AI in this application, they have provided more than 37 million consultations till date, mainly in Colombia and Mexico, and have been able to answer questions in more than 122 countries for Spanish-speaking users.
In the field of Machine Learning for the prediction of fraud PayU Latam, a leading payment service provider, shared their experience, designing and implementing a solution that allows the prediction of transactional fraud online of 200 thousand transactions per day, through models that can access historical data and compute in the 1/1000 second, a limited amount of time available that has an online transaction to decide whether or not it happens. Applying this model for credit and debit card payments, has shown great benefits for decreasing fraud.
