A newsletter which introduces you to a great, purposeful, and inspiring company every other week.

Welcome back. This is going to be the last issue of season 1 for Built On Purpose, but no worries because season 2 is in the works. Lined up for season 2 are some fun brands like LEGO, Barbie, and Smithsonian museums; and also delicious companies like Greyston Bakery and Luke’s Lobster.
If there are any companies or brands you’d like to see in a future issue, let me know by hitting reply or using this form here.
Let’s dive in.

Just before 2019 began, former US President Barack Obama tweeted a few young leaders who inspired him. Jonny Boucher, founder of a coffee shop with a purpose in Chicago called Sip Of Hope, was one of the leaders mentioned by the former president. Here’s how Obama introduced him:
Leaders like Jonny Boucher, a Chicago native who, after losing too many friends and family to suicide, started a coffee shop to offer emotional support and guidance to those who might be in need of a little more than a strong cup of coffee to get through their day.
This issue takes a look at this coffee shop - Sip of Hope
Here are a few highlights of what the coffee shop does to support their cause:
  • all proceeds go toward suicide prevention and mental health education
  • serve as a gathering place for people to talk about mental health
  • there are resources including pamphlets and cards for people to take
  • walls are decorated with key messages like “we are in this together” and “It’s OK to not be OK.”
What Sip of Hope stands for
Sip of Hope is a project made possible by the NPO Hope For The Day and Dark Matter Coffee. Here’s what they stand for.
The Mission of Hope For The Day
Hope For The Day achieves proactive suicide prevention by providing outreach and mental health education.
From Dark Matter Coffee’s Manifesto:
In a world driven by technology and science, we are the gravitational resistance rooted in skill and philosophy. An innovative culinary family fueled by community and passion to deliver the most intellectually honest coffee you will experience.
Wrapping up
Finally, allow me to wrap up season 1 on an inspiring note with a quote from the same series of tweets from the end of 2018 by the former president:
What matters isn’t the size of the step you take; what matters is that you take it.
Have a great summer and will see you in fall with season 2.

With Purpose,
Justin
