How To Be Calm At The End of The World

I’m trying a different format for this week’s newsletter. A little simpler and cleaner. Let me know what you think!

How To Be Calm At The End of The World
How To Be Calm at The End of the World
How To Be Calm at The End of the World
Picture This:
You’ve got your shit together.
Everything is going well.
You finally figured out what you need to do. Not only in your own life, but in the life of others. The ones you need to protect.
And then!
The world ends.
That sucks, right?
I don’t know what you’re thinking and feeling right now. It’s arrogant to assume anything, so I always assume nothing.
But I’ll tell you what: I’m about to turn 39.
And yesterday, for the first time in my life, I gave my Dad a large amount of money.
And then I told him he wouldn’t have to pay me back.
That felt really good. I’d like to do that more often.
So, right now, just as I feel like I have everything together, we’re back to experiencing one of the worst parts of the 20th Century: The looming threat of nuclear annihilation from Russia.
It figures.
But what are you going to do about it?
Yes. You.
Well, for starters, you can and should donate to charitable relief organizations assisting Ukraine.
But let me tell you something else.
Something you might not have heard.
You can’t do much more than that.
So, don’t worry about it.
You did your part.
There’s a Buddhist saying that death can strike at any moment.
But what makes life beautiful, according to Buddhists, is that even though we’re all burdened with this knowledge, we continue about our business anyway.
Understanding this is concept is how you remain calm at the end of the world.
Do what you can to help others. Then go about your business.
You’ve done all you can.
So don’t worry about it.
Be good.
Tell others that you love them.
Then get back to work.
And if the world does end? It ends.
But if it survives, and we all hope it does, the work you do will help us all recover.
So keep going.
That’s what I’m doing.

Yes. That’s my real number. It’s not a Google Voice (remember that?) or a fake number thing.
Just do me a favor and don’t actually call me.
I won’t answer. Not unless your name is Melissa O'Neil and you want to go out on a date with me.
