AR/VR Weekly
Oculus Connect 6 is about to start (and may already be over by the time you read this), and unless a big leak happened overnight, I don’t see a lot of significant news coming from this event.
The biggest news will the reveal of the yet-announced VR game that Respawn Entertainment is working on. We don’t know what it’ll be yet. The studio is already running Apex Legends, a battle royale for PC and consoles. It’s about to push Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order out the door. And it has a long history with the Titanfall universe. Maybe we’ll see a mech shooter? Or some other sort of gun-toting game?
What other announcements might we expect?
  • the number of people with Oculus hardware
  • updates on Rift S, Rift, and Quest
  • Go’s death
  • software updates
Nothing there is all that compelling.
Oculus has released two pieces of hardware this year. Sure, it may be announcing a big game for either this holiday or 2020, and maybe we’ll learn about some other notable titles coming for 2020. But it sure feels like Connect 6 is going to be more of an opportunity to take a breath and look at the state of VR than it is to tout all the hot stuff coming in the future.
We’ll find out shortly what Oculus has up its sleeve.
