Apex Innovators Must Ignore The Law (6 mins) got me thinking about new product ideas. Innovation drives legislation vs. Legislation limits innovation.
I have been enjoying reading “The Right It: Why So Many Ideas Fail and How to Make Sure Yours Succeed”. No fluff. The author, Alberto Savoia, is an ex-Googler who captures the spirit of what got me into product in the first place, and makes innovation a mathematical exercise.

  • What does zigging when others zag look like right now? One key question here is “Do you know who the ‘others’ are?” + “Do you know well what they are doing?”. You can think you’re zigging while actually following the zagging herd.
  • Most people fail to recognize the most meaningful conversation topics, something called a “shoved fact.” The Shoved Fact is very similar to the psychoanalysis term, “Freudian slip,” which says a slip of the tongue may represent an unconscious wish or internal train of thought. (I picked this up from “Stop Asking Questions”.)
